Contraindications for Breathwork
Specific to conscious connected breathwork
This list applies to in-person, online, one-on-one and group sessions
Breathwork is not suitable for individuals with the following:
Pregnancy
Detached Retina
Epilepsy
Glaucoma
Asthma (can participate with inhaler)
High Blood Pressure (uncontrolled)
Cardiovascular Disease/Heart Conditions (e.g., prior heart attack)
Strokes, TIAs, Seizures, or other Brain/Neurological Conditions
Family History of Aneurysms
Use of Prescription Blood Thinners (e.g., Coumadin)
Osteoporosis (if intense movement could cause issues)
Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia (diagnosed by a health professional)
Psychotic or Borderline Psychotic States
Hospitalization for Psychiatric Condition or Emotional Crisis (within the last 10 years)
Any other medical, psychiatric, or physical conditions that would impair the ability to engage in intense physical/emotional release
Please note that clients must honestly disclose all relevant conditions, and practitioners have a duty of care not to treat contraindicated clients and refer them to appropriate specialists.
